READING, Pa. – The Widener University men's lacrosse team posted its first shutout and goal total in more than six years as the Pride downed Alvernia 22-0 on Wednesday night.
 
BY THE NUMBERS

• Kyle Groark led Widener with five goals in the contest including three in the first quarter as Widener built a 10-0 lead after 15 minutes of play.
• Nick DiIorio scored three times while Brady Franks, Drew Amsley, Mitchell Phillips, and Chad Allison each had two. Franks, Phillips, and Allison also added an assist.
• Gavin Kirkwood, Connor Ball, John Dunbar, Chris Drake, Ben Davis, and Drew Dunn all found the back of the net for the Pride.
• Anthony Paone was a perfect 13-for-13 on faceoffs while Widener as a team won 23-of-25.
• The Blue and Gold held a 56-10 advantage in shots including 38-6 in attempts on target.

 
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE

• The shutout is just the third for Widener in the past 20 years. All three blankings have come against Alvernia with a 15-0 win on April 10, 2012 and a 17-0 win on March 28, 2005.
• It marks the highest goal total since the Blue and Gold posted a pair of 24 score outputs in the 2011 season with a 24-5 win against Misericordia and a 24-4 win against Alvernia.
• The 22-goal margin of victory is the highest for the Pride since April 11, 2002 when it downed King's 25-3.
