@WidenerLacrosse Falls in Tough Battle Against No. 3 Gettysburg

CHESTER, Pa. Gavin Kirkwood scored a pair of man-up goals, but the Widener University men's lacrosse team fell to the No. 3 Gettysburg Bullets 10-4 on Saturday afternoon.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • In addition to Kirkwood's two tallies, Brady Franks and Timmy Certeza both scored for the Pride.
  • Paz Gismondi had three assists.
  • John Ferguson had four caused turnovers and four ground balls while John Dunbar forced three miscues and scooped five.
  • As a team, Widener forced 19 turnovers and were 3-for-7 on extra-man opportunities.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The two teams traded goals in the first 17 minutes of the contest as each Gettysburg goal was matched by the Pride, the first from Kirkwood on an EMO and the second from Franks, tying the score at 2-2 with 13:20 left in the second quarter.
  • The Bullets scored the final two markers in the period to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.
  • Gettysburg scored two quick goals to open the third quarter, taking a 6-2 edge just 46 seconds into the stanza.
  • WU got one of the goals back as Kirkwood netted a man-up tally at the 5:03 mark off a feed from Certeza.
  • The Bullets responded four minutes later, scoring with just 41 seconds left in the period to take a four-goal lead before netting the first goal of the final frame a little more than two minutes in.
  • Certeza closed the scoring in the contest, netting his first of the season late in the fourth.
 
UP NEXT
Widener returns to action on Saturday, March 24 when it travels to DeSales. Opening faceoff from Center Valley, Pa. is slated for 1:00 p.m.
