Petri Leads @WUWBB in Victory Against Hood

FREDERICK, Md. – Ten players found the scoring column for the Widener University women's basketball team in a 55-43 victory against the Hood College Blazers on Saturday afternoon at the BB&T Arena.
 

HIGHLIGHTS  

FIRST QUARTER NOTES
  • Hood got on the board first, however, Widener quickly responded with four unanswered to put them ahead 9-2 with 6:40 on the clock.
  • The Blazers attempted to come back with a jumper and a 3-pointer to cut the gap down to two.
  • Widener then sank five more baskets to secure an 18-9 lead after 10 minutes of play.


SECOND QUARTER NOTES
  • The Pride extended its lead to double figures with an Ireland 3-pointer after a made free throw by Emily Hardy.
  • Nikki Petri then sank a 3-pointer with 3:22 remaining and Gallagher connected on a layup to put the Pride ahead 29-14.
  • Izzy Hamlin closed out the half with a jumper six seconds before the buzzer to send the Pride into half time with a 33-16 edge.


THIRD QUARTER NOTES
  • The Blazers closed the gap back down to nine with a 3-pointer out of the hands of Lauren Keeney with 6:19 on the board.
  • Widener, however, responded embarking on a 12-0 lead and not allowing its opponent to convert a field goal for nearly five minutes to give them more than a 20 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.


FOURTH QUARTER NOTES
  • The hosts outscored Widener 14-6 in the fourth, but it wasn't enough to stop the Pride from walking away with the victory.
  • Nikki Petri led the Pride scoring five out of the Pride's eight total points.


UP NEXT
The pride returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 13 when it hosts its annual Pink Game against the Arcadia University Knights. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 p.m.
