READING, Pa. – Trailing at halftime, the Widener University men's basketball team used a big final 20 minutes to down the Alvernia Golden Wolves 83-69 in a MAC Commonwealth matchup on Saturday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS
- Tyler Drews led the Pride with 30 points and eight rebounds on the day.
- Jalen Howard shattered his career-high, dropping 22 points and pulling in five boards.
- Elijah Boyd also recorded double figures in scoring, netting 11.
- Ryan McMahon had eight points, five rebounds, and five assists.
- The Pride outrebounded an opponent for the first time this year, holding a 34-25 edge on the glass.
- The 69 points are the second fewest surrendered by WU this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue and Gold got off to a slow start as Alvernia scored the first basket of the game and went up by five a couple minutes into the game.
- Widener steadied and took a 14-13 lead on a Howard three-pointer. From there, the teams went back and forth holding the edge in the first 20 minutes before the Golden Wolves pushed to a 40-35 edge with a minute to go. The Pride was able to force a defensive stop and got a pair of free throws from Donovan Simon to go into the break trailing by three.
- Down by five just more than six minutes into the second half, Widener went on a 12-2 run, opening a 60-55 lead on a pair of makes at the line by Connor Laverty.
- WU extended its lead as the game progressed, as Drews scored 24 in the stanza with Howard netting nine.
