GLASSBORO, N.J. –
Tyler Drews scored 31 points including hitting 10 free throws in the final minute of play as the Widener University men's basketball team stormed back from a double digit second half deficit to down the Rosemont Ravens 85-82 in the consolation game of the LaScala's Fire Tournament at Rowan on Friday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Drews netted his 31 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field and hit all 13 of his attempts from the line in the game.
- Jalen Howard posted his first career double-double behind 12 points and a personal collegiate best 11 rebounds.
- Elijah Boyd and AJ Sawyers each posted 10 in the contest.
- The Pride took care of the ball well, committing just 10 turnovers in the game.
- Widener connecting on 26-of-34 at the charity stripe.
FIRST HALF NOTES
- The Pride got the quick jump in the game, going up 8-4 just a couple minutes in. The Ravens rallied, using a 23-6 run to open their largest lead of the night at 27-14 with 8:41 to go in the half.
- WU stemmed the tide slightly and pulled back to a single-digit game at half, trailing 41-32.
- Drews scored eight points in the half. Howard posted six points and five boards.
SECOND HALF NOTES
- The Blue and Gold opened the half well, scoring seven of the first nine points to chop the lead to four. Rosemont once again battled back, establishing a 49-39 lead with 15:25 to play.
- Widener made its move as a trey by Drews ignited a 15-5 run, capped by a Sawyers jumper, knotting the score at 54-54.
- The next six minutes saw even play before the Ravens edged out to a 67-65 lead. The Pride pulled away, using an 8-0 run, taking a 73-67 edge with 2:37 left.
- Rosemont tried fouling to extend the game, but Drews would not miss, connecting on 10-for-10 at the free throw line in the final 40 seconds to seal the win.

The Pride returns to action next Friday when it hosts Penn State Berks in its first game of the Widener Tip-Off Tournament for Autism Awareness. Opening tip is slated for 8:00 p.m.
