MEDIA, Pa. – The Widener University women's basketball team exploded in the second half, outscoring Penn State Brandywine by more than 20 points in the third quarter on its way to a 72-47 win on Wednesday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Devan Rimmer led WU in scoring for the second straight game with 17 points.
- Kyra Schenk grabbed seven rebounds while Madison Ireland had five assists.
- Erin Phelan contributed with eight points and five boards.
- 16 different players found the scoring column for Widener.
- After nine first half turnovers, the Pride committed just four the remainder of the contest.
The game started off slowly as both teams struggled with turnovers in the opening quarter. Trailing early, the Pride was able to tie the game at the end of the first frame on an
Emma Gardy trey and took a slim 27-25 lead into the locker room.
Widener took control to begin the third quarter, scoring 17 of the first 20 points in the stanza. The lead grew as the period went on as the Blue and Gold outscored the Nittany Lions 30-8 in the frame to take a 57-33 lead into the fourth.
