READING, Pa. – Behind a balanced offensive attack and strong defense, the Widener University women's volleyball team moved back above .500 and strengthened its conference standing at the midway point of the MAC Commonwealth season with a 3-0 win at Alvernia on Wednesday night. The Pride won by a count of 25-23, 26-24, 25-20.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Pride had three players with seven or more kills, led by 10 from Shelby Motz, who also posted six digs.
• Carly Venit recorded nine kills, two blocks, and hit a team-high .533.
• Nicole Dorman had seven successful attacks and played a strong defense with a team-best 19 digs.
• Ashley McAfee chipped in with 14 digs.
• Sydney Nichols had 20 assists while Emma Wilcock added 14.
• All three sets were tight. In the opening frame, the Pride raced out to an 11-6 lead before Alvernia battled back. The second set saw the opposite as the Golden Wolves went up 7-2 before Widener won in extra points.

 
UP NEXT
The Pride returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Stockton for a tri-match. Widener will face the host Osprey at 1:00 p.m. before a 3:00 p.m. first serve against NYU.
