CHESTER, Pa. – After twice battling back from a goal down, the Widener University men's soccer team got the game-winning goal from
Peter O'Connor with two seconds remaining in the first overtime as the Pride came away with a dramatic 3-2 victory against Arcadia in a MAC Commonwealth matchup on Wednesday night.
FIRST HALF NOTES
- Widener held the better of possession for the majority of the opening 45 minutes, but was unable to find many cracks in a solid back line for the Knights.
- Arcadia took advantage of its only opportunity early in the match as Shade Foreman played a ball through for Ryan Hammer who finished well, for a quick AU lead in the third minute.
- The Pride finally was able to break through in the 27th minute as Brendan O'Boyle threaded the needle with a pass up the middle. Kevin McKenna struck to the lower left and curled the ball just inside the far post for his second tally of the season, bringing the game level.
SECOND HALF NOTES
- Neither team generated much offense in the opening 10 minutes of the frame as the ball was played primarily in the midfield.
- The Knights struck first, Hammer tallied his second goal of the match, shooting direct off a free kick into the top right corner from 27 yards out.
- WU netted the equalizer in the 69th minute as Chase Evans played a ball in on a set piece from the left side deep in the offensive end. Shea Morgan was able to rise above the mixer and rifle a header past the keeper, knotting the score at 2-2.
OVERTIME
- Both keepers were called upon once in the extra period to keep the game going.
- Widener had a chance with just less than 100 seconds remaining, but the shot was kept out by the defender hugging the near post.
- The Blue and Gold came away with the win as a corner kick was whistled with 12 seconds left. The Pride organized quickly and Noah Saba delivered a ball to O'Connor who rifled it past the keeper, beating the horn with two seconds to spare.

Widener returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Hood for a MAC Commonwealth match. Game time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
