Rimmer Scores 22 as @WUWBB Upended at LVC

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Devan Rimmer had a game-high 22 points, but the Widener University women's basketball team dropped a MAC Commonwealth matchup to the Lebanon Valley Dutchmen 74-65 on Wednesday evening.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Rimmer matched LVC's Becky Evans for game-high honors.
  • Allison Gallagher and Madison Ireland scored 13 and 11 respectively with Ireland dishing six assists and grabbing five rebounds.
  • Gallagher and Kyra Schenk each blocked three shots as the Pride had a season-high eight rejections.
 
FIRST QUARTER NOTES
  • In a high-scoring opening period, the two teams played closely, with neither team holding more than a couple point lead before LVC went up 21-15 with just less than two minutes to go.
  • Widener clawed back to within a bucket on consecutive baskets by Rimmer before the Dutchmen took a 23-19 lead at the end of 10 minutes.
  • The Pride hit 50 percent from the floor with Rimmer tallying nine points on 4-of-5 shooting.
 
SECOND QUARTER NOTES
  • After both teams connected on 50 percent or better in the first half, neither team shot well in the second as both hit just four field goals and were under 30 percent.
  • Lebanon Valley opened its largest lead of the half at nine on a layup with 2:49 remaining, but the Pride battled back, once again using a pair of Rimmer buckets to help send the game into the half with a 34-26 tally.
  • Widener had 14 rebounds in the period, six on the offensive end.
 
THIRD QUARTER NOTES
  • The Dutchmen expanded their lead to 12 midway through the half at 50-38.
  • Still trailing by a dozen, the Pride netted six of the final eight points of the frame to cut the lead to 58-50 entering the fourth.
 
FOURTH QUARTER NOTES
  • Down 63-52, the Blue and Gold made a push, chopping the lead to five on an Ireland free throw with 5:15 left in the game.
  • Gallagher scored four points and blocked two shots in the stanza.

Widener continues MAC Commonwealth play with a home date against Stevenson on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1:00 p.m.
