GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Widener University women's basketball team were dealt a 71-68 loss to the Arcadia University Knights on Wednesday evening at the Alumni Gymnasium.
Allison Gallagher paced the Pride with 21 points and nine rebounds.
Devan Rimmer added 16 points and three assists while
Tatiana Pleasant had eight points.
The first quarter was evenly matched until a
Nikki Petri 3-pointer put the Pride ahead with 2:38 remaining and ignited a 8-0 run to give the visitors a 22-15 lead after ten minutes of play.
Widener maintained the lead for the first five minutes of the second stanza before Taylor Dunn knocked down a pair of free throws to tie the game at 26s. The two teams traded baskets until a charity shot by Taylor Fritz then made it 36-36. With just 22 seconds remaining, Ireland scored four shots in a row and put the Pride back ahead 40-36 heading into the locker rooms.
The Pride began to pull away in the third quarter and extended its lead to 10 with 5:46 remaining when Gallagher connected on a jumper.
Tatiana Pleasant provided assurance by scoring back-to-back lay ups to give Widener a 12 point edge to conclude the frame.
In the fourth quarter, Arcadia did not go away and tied the game when Sydney Cyr found Jamie Manzo in the paint for a layup before a jumper by Dunn put the Knights ahead by two. Gallagher then made it a one point game at the charity stripe, however, Arcadia responded with a pair of free throws with 31 seconds remaining in regulation to put the game out of reach.
