Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

@WUWBB Defeats Hood 85-32; Hardy Notches Double-Double

CHESTER, Pa.Emily Hardy recorded her first double-double of the season and the Widener University women's basketball team had five players score in double figures as the Pride defeated the Hood College Blazers, 85-32, on Saturday afternoon in a MAC Commonwealth contest.

Hardy netted 12 points and led all players with a career-high 18 boards to earn her fourth career double-double. Devan Rimmer and Allison Gallagher paced the Pride with 13 points each, respectively. Emma Gardy matched career-highs with 10 points and two assists. Kyra Shenk added 10 points while Tatiana Pleasant led with eight rebounds.

As a team, Widener shot 44.8 percent from the line on 30-of-67 shots and matched a season-best of 81.8 percent from the line on 18-of-22 shots. The Pride held a 56-28 edge on rebounds while turning 19 of Hood's turnovers into 31 points.

Widener's defense held Hood to just four points in the opening frame and held a 25-4 lead heading into the second quarter. Widener opened the contest with a 10-0 run and never looked back as they later extended their lead to double figures when Rimmer hit a three pointer with 23 seconds remaining on the clock. The Pride shot 55.6% on 10-18 shots while the Blazers only had a 9.1 percent field goal percentage. Devan Rimmer paced the Pride with seven points and Kyra Shenk netted six.

The Pride opened the frame on fire and knocked down five unanswered baskets before Nikki Petri ignited an 8-0 run with a fast-break lay up to give Widener a 47-13 cushion at the 2:06 mark. Both Ireland and Gallagher dropped six points in the second stanza as Widener took a 27-13 lead heading into the break.

Widener continued to play stifling defense in the third quarter while limiting hood to just nine points and three field goals. The Pride ballooned its lead to 40 points when Tatiana Pleasant drove in for a layup, which provided more than enough insurance for the hosts to run away with the lopsided win. The Pride shot 33.3 percent from the floor and seven different players found the scoring column.

Both Gardy and Hardy led the fourth quarter with seven points apiece while Hardy pulled down eight rebounds.
