Gallagher’s Double-Double Leads @WUWBB Past Alvernia

READING, Pa. - Allison Gallagher recorded her first double-double of the season and the Widener University women's basketball team placed three players in double figures as the Pride downed the Alvernia University Golden Wolves, 75-45, on Wednesday evening in a MAC Commonwealth contest.

Joining Gallagher in double figures were sophomores Madison Ireland and Devan Rimmer. Rimmer led all players with 22 points on 10-of-15 from the floor. Ireland recorded 19 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals. Gallagher led all players with 10 rebounds.

Widener's defense held Alvernia to just 4-of-19 in the opening frame and held a 25-7 lead after 10 minutes of play. Ireland exceeded the opposition's point total herself with eight points, while four other teammates found the bottom of the net.

The second stanza was more tightly contested as Alvernia attempted to claw back with a short 6-0 run to cut the deficit down to 14 with 7:31 remaining. The Pride, however, responded by sinking their next seven shots to balloon its lead back up to 20 before a lay up from Rimmer closed out the quarter and put the Pride ahead 45-28.

The Blue and Gold extended its lead out of break by winning the third quarter 18-9, while holding the Golden Wolves to just 5-of-16 from the floor. Widener used a 10-4 run to give them a 63-37 edge at the end of the frame.

With the game in hand, Widener continued to put the Golden Wolves away and outscored them 12-8. Emma Gardy opened the scoring with a lay up to give Widener a 65-37 lead before Nikki Petri converted at the line to give them their second conference win.
