CHESTER, Pa. –
Lara Houck scored her first career goal, but the Widener women's soccer team was dealt a 6-1 setback against the William Paterson Pioneers on Sunday afternoon.
The Pride got on the board late in the 89th minute when
Lexi Slusher lifted a ball from the top left corner of the box into the mixer where Houck was able to redirect it home on the header.
WPU scored early in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute and increased to 2-0 five minutes later. The two teams played evenly for the rest of the half before the Pioneers added a late goal, to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Widener had chances in the match as teams were nearly even in shots on goal with the Pioneers held a slim 11-10 advantage.
The Blue and Gold returns to action on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. when it travels across the Delaware River for a matchup against the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors.
