SWARTHMORE, Pa. –
Nicole Dorman had a team-high 11 kills, but the Widener University women's volleyball team fell in the opening match of the Swarthmore Quad 3-0 to Cabrini on Friday afternoon.
The first set was the closest of the match as the Pride opened up an early 7-4 lead and led 14-12 midway through the frame. The Cavaliers battled back to take a 16-14 edge before the Blue and Gold rallied to tie the set at 18-18. Cabrini went on a run to end the stanza, winning seven of the last nine points.
The third set was also a battle as Widener jumped on top quickly 6-3. After a Cabrini rally pushed the Cavaliers to an 8-6 lead, the teams fought point for point through the midway mark when a
Carly Histing kill and an attach error sliced the Cabrini lead to 15-14. An 8-2 run saw the Cavaliers go up 23-16 before the Blue and Gold made a last push as kills by
Natalie Winn and Histing, along with an error closed the gap to 23-19 before Cabrini won the final two points to claim the match.
Widener is back in action tomorrow at the Quad taking on the host Swarthmore at 10:00 a.m. prior to a 2:00 p.m. match against SUNY Oneonta.
