Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Tops DeSales in Close Contest

CHESTER, Pa. Eliza Newlin scored her ninth goal of the season midway through the first half and the Widener University Field Hockey team controlled possession for the majority of the game as the Pride downed the DeSales University Bulldogs 1-0 on Wednesday night at Dixon Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride had the first chance of the match early as four minutes in off a penalty corner, Kayla Herr drilled a shot that beat the goalkeeper, but ricocheted off the left post, keeping the game scoreless.
  • 10 minutes later, Newlin settled on the left side of the net. Jordana Ambros delivered a perfect centering pass that Newlin redirected for the only tally of the game.
  • DeSales best chance came with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half. Kylie Honnick-Payne took a shot off a restart that was saved by Sabrina Roberto. On the rebound, Madison Brader pounced on the ball and seemed to have an open net before Lexie Eberly stepped in front for the defensive save.
