SAN JUAN, P.R. – The Widener University women's volleyball team opened its season on Saturday, splitting a pair of matches at the Puerto Rico Clasico. The Pride topped Wilkes 3-0 after falling 3-0 to Bridgewater (Va.) to open the day.
Bridgewater 3, Widener 0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-20)
Leading the way for the Pride against the Eagles was
Nicole Dorman who had eight kills and 16 digs along with two blocks and a .172 hitting percentage.
Ashley McAfee added 15 digs and eight assists while
Liz Kwon led WU with nine helpers on the match while recording three digs and an ace.
Widener 3, Wilkes 0 (25-22, 25-14, 28-26)
A balanced attack led Widener as three players each had seven or more kills and hit .225 or better led by
Kelsey Lee who swung down 12 successful attacks and notched a .417 hitting percentage. Dorman and
Kayla Ewart each had seven kills, hitting .300 and .235 respectively. Dorman added 11 digs and four blocks against the Lady Colonels. McAfee led the Pride with 14 digs while Kwon had 20 assists. Also making contributions in the match were
Sydney Nichols with 13 assists and
Natalie Winn who delivered four blocks.
The Pride wraps up the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 3 when it takes on Dickinson at 11:30 a.m. and Wesley at 1:30 p.m.
