DOVER, Del. –
Eva Reyes scored the game-winner in the 99th minute as the Widener University women's soccer team downed the Wesley Wolverines 2-1 in overtime on Saturday night.
Tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, the Pride went on the attack late in extra session. Taking a feed from
Alyssa Dionisio, Reyes buried her third goal of the season in the back of the net to win the game for the Blue and Gold.
The match would not have gone to overtime had it not been for some heroics late in regulation. Trailing 1-0 late in the 82nd minute, Widener earned a corner kick.
Lexi Slusher delivered a good ball that
Shea Scannell was able to settle and connect from the top of the box into the net, knotting the contest at 1-1.
Despite having a decided advantage on the stat sheet through the opening 45 minutes, the game went to halftime scoreless. Wesley put the first goal of the match on the board in the 53rd minute with just its third shot of the contest.
For the match, Widener outshot Wesley 44-6 and held a 15-1 advantage in attempts on target.
The Pride returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 20 when it hosts Goucher at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium. The match is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
