CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University women's soccer team tied three school records as the Pride won its third match in a row with a 9-0 victory against the Bryn Mawr Owls on Wednesday evening at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
RECORD SETTERS
- Shea Scannell tied the Widener record with eight points in the contest on the strength of three goals and two assists. The feat had previously been done twice, by Sam Baer against Neumann on Sept. 3, 2008 and by Caryinna Yenchak versus Goucher on Sept. 24, 2008.
- Scannell also recorded the 16th hat trick in Pride women's soccer history. The last to do it was current teammate Lauren Wilson on Sept. 15, 2015 against Immaculata.
- Alyssa Dionisio tied a record for the Blue and Gold with three assists in the game. It is the ninth time in program that a player has helped on three scores, the last coming from Kelly Buckley against Lycoming on Oct. 11, 2013.
KEY NUMBERS
- Six different players scored a point for the Blue and Gold in the match with five recording goals. In addition to Scannell's three tallies, Alyssa Dionisio and Lexi Slusher each netted a pair with Brielle Errico and Allie Maszlanka finding the back of the net once.
- Eva Reyes and Scannell each had two assists in the match. Slusher and Maszlanka set up one goal apiece.

- With 21 goals this season, the Pride has eclipsed last season's total of 18.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener got the scoring started early as Slusher found the back of the net on the first shot of the game, as Dionisio crossed the ball in from the left before Slusher sent it past the keeper. Four minutes later, the Pride struck again as this time Dionisio took a feed from Reyes before sending her shot into the lower right to make it 2-0 in the seventh minute.
- The score remained that way until the 23rd minute when Scannell took a lead pass from Reyes and touched it once past the keeper. Early in the 34th, Errico tallied her goal, as Maszlanka crossed the ball from the right, Scannell redirected it through the center before Errico beat the keeper on the left to the short side.
- Early in the second half, the Blue and Gold netted a pair within a minute of each other. Scannell got her second of the match, settling a ball at the top of the 18 on a feed from Dionisio before connecting into the lower right. 46 seconds later, Scannell sent a lead pass ahead to Slusher who connected on her second of the match.
- Dionisio got her second tally of the day as Slusher took the ball on a turnover, sending Dionisio down the left side. She cut to the middle before driving the ball lower left.
- Scannell netted her record-tying goal in the 63rd minute as she took a pass down the right side from Dionisio, moved into the middle before sending the ball back to the lower right.
- Maszlanka recorded her first career goal in the 87th minute as on a 50-50 ball, she beat the keeper to the spot and tapped it into the open net.
