Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Lebanon Valley

CHESTER, Pa. (Apr. 1, 2017) – Sophomore Parker Robb (Allentown, Pa.) scored his first career goal and classmate Matt Horton (Emmaus, Pa.) turned away more than 80 percent of the shots he faced on target to help lead the Widener University men's lacrosse team to an 8-2 victory over Lebanon Valley on Saturday evening at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.

Lebanon Valley (6-3, MAC Commonwealth 0-2) netted the first goal of the game when Klayton finished a pass from Matt Torrence just 2:29 into the contest, but Widener's defense being anchored by junior John Ferguson (Springfield, Pa.), senior Scott Allison (Chester Springs, Pa.) and sophomore Bryan Facciani (Pasadena, Pa.) proved to be nearly impenetrable afterwards. With the Dutchman offense being held in check for more than 50 minutes, Widener responded by scoring seven unanswered over three quarters to pull away.

Robb took a feed from freshman Paz Gismondi (West Deptford, N.J.) and scored his first-ever marker at the 12:30 mark to put the Pride ahead, and senior Chris Sanchez (Flanders, N.J.) doubled the margin by finding the back of the net on a man-up opportunity less than two minutes later. Senior Tyler Schulte (Southampton, N.J.) and Sanchez then added back-to-back markers to open the scoring in the third to make it 6-1, which provided the hosts more than enough insurance to remain unbeaten in conference play.

Sanchez led all scorers by tallying three goals and a helper in a reserve role for Widener, which outshot its opponent by a 39-25 margin and had a 39-25 advantage in ground balls. Junior Anthony Paone (Warrington, Pa.) won 11 of his 14 faceoffs and scooped up six ground balls, while Ferguson picked up two ground balls and caused three turnovers. Horton finished with nine saves between the pipes.

Garman factored into both markers for the Dutchmen by registering a goal and an assist. Cooper Gerus finished with two caused turnovers along with two ground balls, and Cameron Epple turned away seven shots from the cage.

Widener (5-4, MAC Commonwealth 2-0) will look to win its fourth straight game when it visits Albright on Wednesday, Apr. 5 at 7:00 p.m.
