Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Albright Downs Men’s Lacrosse

READING, Pa. (Apr. 5, 2017) – The Widener University men's lacrosse team dropped a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth matchup to Albright by a 20-10 score on Wednesday evening at Shirk Stadium.

Widener (5-5, MAC Commonwealth 2-1) appeared to be in control early, as freshman Colin Savacool (Gloucester Township, N.J.) won the opening faceoff and senior Tyler Schulte (Southampton, N.J.) found the back of the net just 57 seconds into the contest to put the visitors on the board before the Lions had a possession. Schulte then finished a pass from sophomore Shane Taylor (Philadelphia, Pa.) to double the advantage for the Pride at the 9:58 mark.

But after falling behind by a 3-1 score, Albright (4-5, MAC Commonwealth 2-1) rattled off five unanswered markers and never looked back. The Lions carried an 8-6 advantage into the break and then scored three straight after the recess to move ahead by five, and another 5-0 run that stretched between the third and fourth frames would put the game out of reach. Nick Tonno tallied two of his four goals in the final minute for the hosts to produce the final outcome.

Cam Cetrone led all scorers by providing seven goals and one assist for Albright, which had a commanding 47-22 advantage in total shots, won 20 faceoffs and won the ground game as well. Derek Stump recorded six points on two goals and four assists, and James Lettieri was credited with all of the team's faceoff wins.

Widener got a pair of four-point performances from Schulte and Taylor. Schulte scored four goals, while Taylor had two markers and two assists. Junior Liam O'Donnell (Media, Pa.) and sophomore Matt Horton (Emmaus, Pa.) scooped up four ground balls apiece, while Horton redirected eight shots from between the pipes.

The Pride return to action when they host #12 Stevenson on Saturday, Apr. 8 at 1:00 p.m.
