10 Players Score for Men's Basketball in Loss at Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – 10 different players found the scoring column for the Widener University men's basketball team, but the Pride fell to the Ursinus Bears 99-80 on Sunday afternoon.

Tyler Drews led three Widener players in double figures with 21 points, his third game this season of 19 or more. Connor Laverty had 13 and Elijah Boyd netted 12 with a team-high seven rebounds. Donovan Simon and Jared Peters each tallied eight off the bench, making a pair of three-pointers apiece. As a team, the Blue and Gold matched a season-best with 11 triples.

A tight game early, the first three and a half minutes saw three lead changes and three ties. A jumper by Drews tied the score at 10-10 at the 16:26 mark before Ursinus embarked on a 16-3 run in the next seven minutes to take a 26-13 advantage midway through the frame. Trailing 38-28 with 5:42 to go in the opening half, Widener battled back, scoring six in a row on back-to-back treys by Drews to ignite a 15-6 spurt, slicing the lead to a single point on an old-fashioned three-point play by Laverty with 32 seconds to go in the stanza before heading into intermission down 47-43.

The Pride got the jump on the second half, scoring, netting the first points on a fastbreak layup by Drews 26 seconds in. The Bears responded, using a 16-3 run to take a 63-48 lead at the 14:52 mark. The two teams traded baskets for the majority of the rest of the game to cement the final score.

HIGHLIGHTS
The game was the second consecutive contest with 20+ points for Drews.
