Field Hockey Falls in MAC Commonwealth Semifinals

Boxscore READING, Pa. – Making its first MAC Commonwealth Championship appearance since 2009, the Widener University field hockey team battled to a tough 3-1 loss to the Alvernia Golden Wolves on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Wolves tallied the first goal of the game off a penalty corner less than three minutes into the match.
  • Widener tied it up eight minutes later as Jordana Ambros took a feed through the middle from Jackie Daniels. After the ball caromed off the keeper, Ambros collected and sent it into the open cage.
  • With just more than two minutes remaining in the half, Alvernia took a 2-1 lead as after the initial shot was saved off a corner, a rebound was moved through the circle and sent into the far side of the net.
  • Scoreless for the first 20 minutes of the second half, Alvernia broke through with a goal off a scrum to go up 3-1.
