Women's Soccer Remains Undefeated in Conference Play

CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University women's soccer team picked up a key conference win, coming from behind to down the Hood Blazers 2-1 on Wednesday night.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Hood struck first on a free kick that Alyssa Nubgaard, delivered directly on frame from the top left corner of the box.
  • Widener tied things late in the first half as in the 44th minute, Shea Scannell delivered a centering pass. Kailea Schwartz settled it before firing a rocket into the upper portion of the net, beating the keeper.
  • Early in the second half, the Pride tallied the game winner. After a Blazers foul, Kimmy Lyons sent a free kick in from midfield. The ball was touched down by Lexi Slusher, right onto the waiting foot of Lauren Wilson who found the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • The Blue and Gold held a 15-8 advantage in shots including 8-2 in attempts on target.
  • Widener now has eight wins on the season, the most since 14 in 2013.
  • The Pride is 2-0 in MAC Commonwealth play for the first time since before the 2007 season and is unbeaten in conference through two games for the first time since 2010.
 
UP NEXT
Widener has an important early conference contest when it travels to Owings Mills, Md. to face off against Stevenson on Saturday, Oct. 7. The match is slated for a 4:00 p.m. start.
