Shea Scannell scored her ninth goal of the season early in the second half, but the Widener University women's soccer team fell in a MAC Commonwealth heartbreaker, 2-1 to the Stevenson Mustangs in double overtime on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride went down early when Stevenson scored in the 23rd minute on a shot from the far right wing. Widener tied it on Scannell's ninth of the season, coming on a penalty kick in the 56th minute.
Despite outshooting the Mustangs 17-4 in regulation, the match went into overtime. After a scoreless first 10 extra minutes, Stevenson converted the game-winner on a penalty kick in the 102nd minute.
Widener returns to action with a home non-conference matchup against Penn State Abington on Wednesday, Oct. 11. Opening tap from Quick Stadium is slated for 4:00 p.m.
