CHESTER, Pa. – The Widener University field hockey team used a three goal barrage late in the first half as the Pride won its sixth game in a row, downing Moravian 4-0 on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Scoreless midway through the opening frame, Kayla Herr got Widener on the board, taking a feed off a penalty corner from Eliza Newlin, finding the back of the cage for a 1-0 advantage at the 22:50 mark.
- Herr returned the favor eight minutes later as she sent a cross in to Newlin who redirected the shot home, putting the Blue and Gold up 2-0.
- Widener pushed the lead to 3-0 as Herr struck again at 32:35, coming up with her second goal of the contest off a corner.
- Kelsi Walker finished off the scoring, connecting on her second goal of the year off a Jordana Ambros pass.
BY THE NUMBERS
- For Herr the goals were her eighth and ninth of the season.
- Newlin tallied her 10th goal of the year, ranking fourth in the MAC. Both Newlin and Herr are in the top-five in the conference in points per game.
- Widener outshot Moravian 25-1 in the contest and had an 11-1 advantage in penalty corners.
