Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Advances to Postseason with 2-0 Victory Over Lebanon Valley

CHESTER, Pa. – Lexi Slusher netted a goal less than three minutes into the game to help propel the Widener University women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the Lebanon Valley College Dutchmen on Saturday afternoon on Hirschmann Field at Leslie C. Quick, Jr. Stadium

With the win Widener advances to the MAC Commonwealth Championship for the first time since 2008.

Widener went right at the opposition from the opening whistle and took the lead immediately when Slusher collected a deflected ball in the box off Alyssa Dionisio's foot. Her hard driven shot to the left corner put the Pride ahead 1-0 less three minutes in. Lebanon Valley had five opportunities throughout the remainder of the half, however, Widener's defense prevailed as the Blue and Gold entered the recess with a 1-0 lead.

The Pride doubled its lead in the 53rd minute after the ball deflected off of a defender and into the back of the net on a corner kick taken by Eva Reyes.  Sam Thach made two saves in between the pipes for her sixth shutout this season.

Widener will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Championship. The Pride travels to No. 2 seed Arcadia on Thursday, Nov. 2 for the tournament semifinals. Match time will be announced at a later date.
