CHESTER, Pa. – Eliza Newlin scored the game-winner in the 73rd minute as the Widener University field hockey team downed the Arcadia Knights, 3-2, in overtime on Thursday night at Dixon Field.Â

FAMILIAR DUO
Newlin's goal in the 73' made all the difference in the score sheet, and it came off of a slotted pass from Herr that Newlin connected with inside the circle. Her hard-driven shot proved to be the game winner.
The combination of Newlin and Herr orchestrated a tally for the 12th time this season. The duo leads the team in both goals and assists.
Consistent Pressure, Strong Defense
Widener collected 12 shots in the game, with seven going on frame. The hosts opened the scoring early, but the Pride went right at the Knights, immediately entering the attacking third for revenge. With composure, Herr got Widener on the board when she scored off of a corner in the 24'.
The Pride took a one-goal lead in the 47th minute after Daniels fired a shot past the keeper, however, Arcadia came back and sent the game into overtime with a goal from Sydney Cyr. Â
Three minutes into overtime, Herr made a pass from the right side into the circle where Newlin buried the ball for the 3-2 victory.
UP NEXT
With the win, Widener claims the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Championship. The Pride will travel to No. 2 seed Alvernia on Wednesday, Nov. 1 in the tournament semifinals. Match time will be announced at a later date.
