READING, Pa. – The Widener University field hockey team suffered its first MAC Commonwealth loss of the season, falling 5-1 at the hands of the Alvernia Golden Wolves on Wednesday evening.
Alvernia jumped on top early with a pair of goals in the first seven minutes and increased the lead to 3-0 at the 16:38 mark. Widener got on the board midway through the first half with an own goal. The Golden Wolves scored twice more in the second half to cement the final tally.
The Pride returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 21 when it travels to No. 1 Messiah for a MAC Commonwealth contest. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
