Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Widener Falls Short, 1-0, to #3 Messiah

CHESTER, Pa. Freshman Danny Thompson made six saves out of seven shots on goal, however, the Widener University men's soccer team were dealt a 1-0 loss against the #3 Messiah Falcons on Saturday night at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.

Widener's defense was solid the entire first 25 minutes only allowing Messiah to get through twice for two corner kicks. Messiah had one strong opportunity, however, Thompson proved to be superior by making a diving save to the left corner. The Pride continued to hold off the hosts while creating opportunities of their own until Messiah managed to take the 1-0 lead with eight minutes remaining in the half.

The second half offensive transitions for both sides were anticlimactic as neither team produced many on-target opportunities. John Colbert had one more close chance to tie the game with three minutes remaining in regulation but came up short as the Pride were dealt a 1-0 loss. Thompson made three saves in the remainder of the half to not allow the Falcons anymore goals.

Widener will regroup and return to action on Oct. 17 at 7:00 p.m. as they take on Arcadia in Glenside, Pa.
