CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman
Jackie Daniels scored one goal in each half, however, the Widener University field hockey team fell in non-conference action, 3-2, to the Wilkes University Colonels in overtime on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After containing Wilkes for over 16 minutes and holding them to no shots or penalty corners, the hosts opened the scoring with a rebounded shot off of a tough save by
Sabrina Roberto. Widener did not let down and applied heavy pressure immediately afterwards by firing off five consecutive shots in under four minutes. Daniels then received a pass back from
Jordana Ambros that allowed her to put the ball past the keeper and tie the game for the Pride. Daniels was able to create one more opportunity in the last two minutes before entering the recess.
Coming out of halftime, Widener continued to play strong offensively, and earned the first shot in less than five minutes. The Colonels took a one-goal lead in the 42nd minute, but that lead proved to be short lived. In the 48th minute, a ball was sent across the circle where Daniels buried a one-timer to tie the game at two before the Pride were dealt a 3-2 loss in overtime.
