GLENSIDE, Pa. (Jan. 21, 2017) – Senior Ian Gaynor (Donegal, Ireland) won all two sprint freestyle events and swam on two victorious relays to lead the Widener University men's swimming team to a 135-127 triumph over Arcadia in the final dual meet of the season for both schools on Saturday afternoon.
Gaynor went undefeated in two individual events, beginning the evening with a time of 20.72 in the 50-yard freestyle. He then went on to win the 100 free in 46.60 seconds. Gaynor anchored the 200 medley relay that clocked in at 1:38.94 and included sophomore Aaron Green (Camden-Wyoming, Del.), freshman Paolo Cortez (Brick Township, N.J.), freshman Martin Bohdan (Tobyhanna, Pa.), and Gaynor. The senior also anchored the 200 free relay with a time of 1:26.81 including senior Jeff Hicks (White Haven, Pa.), senior Jeremy Lahn (Philadelphia, Pa.), and senior Michael Grajek (Freehold, N.J.).
Other notable performances were made by Bohdan, Green, Cortez, and freshman Porter Luksic (Shavertown, Pa.) who each won individual events. Bohdan took the 200 free in 1:45.59, and Cortez won the 100 breast stroke in 1:01.62, respectively. Luksic took the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.75, and Green hit the wall at 2:06.40 for a first place finish in the 100 butterfly.
Widener (11-1) will look to win its 14th Middle Atlantic Conference title overall when it travels to York, Pa. for the league's championship meet beginning on Feb. 9.
