RADNOR, Pa. (Jan. 13, 2017) – Senior Ian Gaynor (Donegal, Ireland) factored into three event victories in leading the Widener University men's swimming team to convincing triumphs over host Cabrini and Wilkes in dual meet competition on Saturday afternoon. The Pride defeated the Cavaliers, 167-28, and the Colonels by a 169-28 score.
Gaynor captured the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events in times of 21.07 and 46.28 seconds, respectively.
Other notable performances were made by sophomore Aaron Green (Camden-Wyoming, Del.), sophomore Sam Smith (Columbus, Ohio) and freshman Martin Bohdan (Tobyhanna, Pa.) who each won an individual event and swam on a first-place relay. Bohdan took the 200 free in 1:46.97, Smith won the 500 free in 5:04.86, and Green hit the wall at 2:06.40 for a first place finish in the 200 IM.
The 400 medley relay clocked in at 3:46.40 and the 400 free relay hit the wall in 3:20.54. Relay members included senior Mike Grajek (Freehold, N.J.), freshman Paolo Cortez (Brick Township, N.J.), senior Jeff Hicks (White Haven, Pa.), and Green on the 400 medley, and Gaynor, junior Tom Platt (Wallingford, Pa.), Bohdan, and Smith on the 400 free.
Widener (10-0, MAC 7-0) will return to action to compete against Swarthmore away Sunday, Jan. 15 at 1 p.m.
