CHESTER, Pa. (Sept. 28 2016) – The Widener University women's soccer team fought hard but fell to Haverford College by a 1-0 score on Wednesday evening at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
The only goal of the match was scored early off a header by Abby Letts, who was assisted by Katie Safter off a free kick in the ninth minute of play to put the visitors ahead.
With Haverford's offense being held in check, Widener came out strong in the second half and had an early opportunity on a breakaway by freshman Alyssa Dionisio (Philadelphia, Pa.). However, Kathy Prescott came out and disrupted the play. A shot by sophomore Katie Mindnich (Bellingham, Wash.) off a Pride corner kick in the final minute of regulation to try and even the score was corralled by Prescott, and the Fords would survive to register their sixth win of the season.
Freshman Jenna Keating (Havertown, Pa.) recorded 11 saves for The Pride, while The Ford's (6-1-1) Prescott turned away one shot.
Widener (2-4-2) will be back in action at home on Saturday, Oct. 1 when it competes against Stevenson at 5 p.m.
