EWING, N.J. (Sept. 26, 2016) – The Widener women's soccer team was unable to gain momentum as it fell to The College of New Jersey, 3-0, on Sunday at the TCNJ Soccer Complex.
TCNJ (6-0-1) opened the scoring early, as Marissa Scognamiglio knocked home the opening tally in the 19th minute of play. Elizabeth Thoresen added a goal for the Lions in the 45th minute, and just two minutes later, Jessica Goldman added the third goal for TCNJ off of a penalty kick.
Freshman Jenna Keating (Havertown, Pa.) had a career high of 11 saves. Widener's solid back line consisting of junior Kellian Burns (Clarksboro, N.J.), sophomore Gabrielle Campbell (Mickleton, N.J.), freshman Rachel Hafer (Reading, Pa.) and sophomore Brooke Palmieri (Linwood, N.J.) played strong to the very end, not backing down without a fight. Sophomore Mikaela Malofiy (Horsham, Pa.) kept her composure on offense by distributing the ball and creating opportunities for the Pride.
Widener (2-3-2) will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 28 to take on Haverford at Leslie Quick Stadium at 7 p.m.
