GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. (Sept. 17, 2016) – The Widener University men's soccer team fell to Gwynedd Mercy by a score of 4-2 on the road on Saturday afternoon.
Widener (1-4-1) fell behind early in the first half, but the Pride came back strong with a goal headed in by
Dylan Pratzner (Wallingford, Pa.) in the 21st minute to tie the match. Minutes later, Pratzner also set up
Kevin McKenna (North Wales, Pa.) to give Widener the lead at 2-1.
But after tying the score shortly before halftime, the Griffins completed a rally by finding the back of the net two more times in the second frame to stun the Pride and earn the 4-2 win. Matt Saba scored twice to spark the rally before Danny Saba tallied an insurance marker.
Overall, the match was evenly played with both teams attempting eight shots apiece. Senior goalkeeper
Dave Sousa (Springfield, Pa.) made four saves for Widener, while Ryan Oyola of Gwynedd Mercy (4-3) turned away one shot in relief to pick up the victory.
Widener will regroup and return to action on the road against Rosemont on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 7 p.m.
