CHESTER, Pa. (Sept. 10, 2016) – Junior
Eva Reyes (Cranbury, N.J.) and senior
Erica McDonough (Glendora, N.J.) each found the back of the net as the Widener University women's soccer team played Washington College (2-1-1) to a 2-2 draw on Saturday at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
The Shorewomen opened the scoring early in the first half with a goal by Arianna Sabatino. Sixteen minutes later, Reyes answered right back with her first marker of the season. Freshman
Lexi Slusher (Pennsville, N.J.) played the junior a square ball through the box, which was drilled on the ground into the back of the net.
The teams continued to trade goals in the second half. Washington College regained the lead just three minutes after the start of the frame. The Pride, however, pulled through with an answer in the 71st minute as McDonugh dribbled the ball past the goalkeeper and unleashed a shot to make the score 2-2 and sending the match into overtime.
Widener (2-1-1) and the visitors were back and forth with their shots at a 16-15 ratio at the end of the match. The Pride had an opportunity late in the second overtime when McDonough crossed a ball into the box and found Slusher's head at the end of it. However, neither team was able to add another mark to the scoreboard.
Freshman
Jenna Keating (Havertown, Pa.) turned away six shots for Widener, while the Shorewomen's Courtney Colbert tallied eight saves.
Widener resumes action on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. when it takes on Rutgers-Newark.
