Chester, Pa. – Randolph-Macon scored early in the first half and late in the second half to record a 2-0 victory over the Widener University men's soccer team on Thursday evening at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets (1-0), who outshot the Pride 17-9, got on the board when Andrew Griggs headed in a corner kick taken by Logan McHugh. With the Widener offense being held in check, the visitors then added insurance when Bryan Lutz found the back of the net in the 86
th minute to close out the scoring. McHugh added his second assist of the match on the play.
Brian Breslin made five saves in the net for Randolph-Macon (1-0) to pick up the win.
Dave Sousa was tagged with the loss despite making seven saves for the Pride.
Widener (0-1) will regroup and return to action to host Neumann on Saturday, Sep. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
