Second-Half Push Not Enough for Women’s Soccer in Setback at Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 8, 2016) – The Widener women's soccer team retaliated against Lebanon Valley in the second half but was unable to come away with a victory as it fell to the Dutchmen, 5-3, on Saturday afternoon at Herbert Field.

Lebanon Valley got on the board early in the second minute of play courtesy of Katie Goldsmith. Minutes after the first mark, Sammy Boost put another one away to double the Dutchmen lead.

Widener regrouped and came out with a vengeance early in the second half. Four minutes into the frame freshman Kailea Schwartz (Philadelphia, Pa.) rifled the ball into the back of the net with an assist coming from Lexie Slusher (Pennsville, N.J.). Brielle Errico (Monmouth Junction, N.J.) then tied the match at 2-2 by capitalizing off a penalty kick just one minute later.

Even though The Pride were able to match Lebanon Valley in shot attempts during the second half, it was not enough to pull ahead. The Dutchmen scored three more times in the second half and never looked back.

Lebanon Valley's (7-4, MAC Commonwealth 1-2) Taylor Reinhold turned down six shots, while freshman Jenna Keating (Springfield, Pa.) recorded seven saves for the Pride.

Widener (2-7-2, MAC Commonwealth 0-2) will return home to face Albright for another conference match on Wednesday, October 12 at 7 p.m.
