TOWSON, Md. (Oct. 4, 2016) – The Widener University women's soccer team dropped its final non-conference match of the season to Goucher by a 4-0 score on Tuesday evening at Beldon Field.
Goucher (6-4-1) scored twice late in the first half and never looked back. Isabel Suazo put the Gophers on the board with a strike in the 36th minute, and Stephanie Budrock knocked in another to double the margin just 2:14 later to give the hosts a 2-0 advantage at the break.
Widener came out strong in the second half and attempted to rally. Sophomore Stephanie Mindnich (Bellingham, Wash.) fired off two quick shots, but both of her boots were corralled by Gopher goalkeeper Lexi Rudolph. Budrock and Samantha Turner then added insurance tallies in the 74th and 81st minutes, respectively, to close out the scoring.
Rudolph turned away 12 shots to earn her fifth clean sheet of the season for Goucher, while the Pride's
Jenna Keating (Havertown, Pa.) failed to make a save in the setback.
Widener (2-6-2) resumes conference play when it visits Lebanon Valley on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 1:00 p.m.
