CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2016) – Junior
Christine Kunzler (Livermore, Calif.) won two freestyle events and also swam on a pair of victorious relays to help lead the Widener University women's swimming team to a 168-94 victory over Albright on Saturday afternoon at the Schwartz Center.
Kunzler most notably won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.89 seconds and the 100 free in 54.61. The junior also started the afternoon by anchoring the 200 medley relay which also included freshmen
Jill Bujanowski (Edgewater Park, Pa.) and
Sammy Grogan (Newtown, Pa.) as well as sophomore
Lauren Griffith (Doylestown, Pa.).
The Pride also had six additional swimmers win one individual event and three which also participated in a relay. In addition to taking part in the opening relay, Bujanowski captured the 200 IM in 2:16.90 and Grogan took first in the 200 breast in 2:34.53.
After placing first in the 200 free in 2:00.24, senior
Melaney Heald (Georgetown, Del.) anchored the 400 free relay which clocked in at 3:45.22 to close out the day. The group also included Kunzler, Griffith and sophomore
Kaylin Augustine (Wyoming, Pa.).
Widener (3-0) will look to remain unbeaten against Middle Atlantic Conference competition when it treks to Hood to face Messiah, FDU-Florham and the host Blazers on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m.
