CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2016) – In a battle between the two programs which have combined to win the last 21 Middle Atlantic Conference championships, the Widener University men's swimming team earned a 151-111 dual meet victory over Albright on Saturday afternoon at the Schwartz Center.
After providing the heroics at the end of the conference championship meet last winter,
Aaron Green (Camden-Wyoming, Del.) factored into four-place finishes to lead the way for the Pride in today's action. The sophomore captured the 100-yard backstroke in 54.60 seconds and the 100 fly in 52.45 while also swimming on both victorious relays. Senior
Ian Gaynor (Donegal, Ireland) was also a double winner in individual events by winning the 50 and 100 free with marks of 20.64 and 46.07, respectively.
Another notable contributor for the Pride was senior
Mike Grajek (Freehold, N.J.). He won the 500 free in 4:56.41 and joined Green on both relays, which included swimming the leadoff backstroke leg of the 200 medley relay that touched the wall in 1:37.23 before anchoring the 400 free relay which finished in 1:37.23 to close out the meet.
Widener (3-0) will look to remain unbeaten against Middle Atlantic Conference competition when it treks to Hood to face Messiah, FDU-Florham and the host Blazers on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m.
