Men's Soccer Plays Arcadia to 1-1 Draw on Senior Night

CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 25, 2016) - Senior Dave Sousa (Springfield, Pa.) made seven saves and sophomore Dylan Pratzner (Wallingford, Pa.) found the back of the net as the Widener University men's soccer team played Arcadia to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday evening at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.

Arcadia (9-5-3, MAC Commonwealth 3-2-2) opened the scoring just 84 seconds into the match when Bradley McKim one-touched a short cross from Manny Camacho that made it past Widener's Sousa. The Pride, however, answered back late in regulation and eventually forced overtime. Freshman Jude Morgan (Media, Pa.) played a dangerous ball into the box which goalkeeper Chris Watson attempted to get a hand on, but Pratzner got to it first and headed home the equalizer in the 81st minute.

The visitors dominated the overtime periods and outshot the Pride by a count of 13-2 over the extra 20 minutes of play. Arcadia nearly ended the match when McKim came down the left side drew Sousa out of the box to create a wide open net, but back-to-back shot attempts by Chris Boyd and Ryan Hammer in the 95th minute were blocked by sophomore Alex Wacey (Berywn, Pa.) and freshman Antonio Marchio (Sinking Spring, Pa.) for team saves. Sousa also made a point-blank stop in the waning seconds against Brandon Pryor, and the teams settled for the 1-1 draw.

Prior to the match, seniors Tommy O'Keefe (Lutherville, Md.) and Sousa were recognized for their contributions to the program.

Watson picked up the victory between the pipes for Arcadia, which punched its ticket to the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Tournament with the tie. Sousa turned away seven shots, including three in the overtime sessions, for the Pride to help salvage the draw.

Widener (3-10-3, MAC Commonwealth 1-4-2) wraps up its 2016 campaign when it visits Hood on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m.
