Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second Half Push Not Enough for Men's Soccer Against Stevenson

CHESTER, Pa. (Oct. 1, 2016) – The Widener men's soccer team pressured Stevenson in the second half but was unable to come away with a victory as it fell to the Mustangs, 3-2, on Saturday night at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.

The game was back-and-forth in the first half with the Mustangs outshooting the Pride 5-4. After a shot by Widener sophomore Dylan Pratzner (Wallingford, Pa.) was saved, freshman Sam Bly retaliated and put the Mustangs on the board with just 12 seconds left on the clock in the first half to give the visitors the lead at the break.

Widener shook off the late strike and came out with vengeance in the second half by scoring a quick breakaway goal when senior Tommy O'Keefe (Lutherville, Md.) stripped the ball from Stevenson's back line and took the goalie head on. The score remained 1-1 until the 75th minute when the ball deflected off one of Widener's defenders to put the Mustangs ahead 2-1.

The seesaw battle continued through the remainder of regulation, as the Pride's Kevin McKenna (North Wales, Pa.) answered back with an assist from O'Keefe in the 78th minute to tie the score 2-2. Jonathan Hart, however, capitalized off a deflection with two minutes remaining in regulation to secure the 3-2 win for the Mustangs.

Stevenson's (2-7-1, MAC Commonwealth 1-0) Michael Tringali turned down three shots, while senior Dave Sousa (Springfield, Pa.) also recorded three saves for the Pride.

Widener (2-7-1, MAC Commonwealth 0-1) will travel to Annville, Pa. to face Lebanon Valley for another conference match on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 4:00 p.m.
