Men’s Swimming Wins Final Dual Meet Against Arcadia

CHESTER, Pa. (Jan. 26, 2015) – Junior Ian Gaynor (Donegal, Ireland) won all three sprint freestyle events and swam on a victorious relay to lead the Widener University men's swimming team to a 153-108 triumph over Arcadia in the final dual meet of the season for both schools on Monday at the Schwartz Center.
 
Gaynor went undefeated in three individual events, beginning the evening with a time of 1:48.59 in the 200-yard freestyle. He then went on to win the 50 free in 21.47 seconds before capturing the 100 free in 47.52. Gaynor also anchored the 200 medley relay that clocked in at 1:40.32 and included freshman Aaron Green (Camden-Wyoming, Del.), senior Andrew Madore (State College, Pa.) and junior Jeffrey Hicks (White Haven, Pa.).
 
Other notable performances were made by Green and Madore. Green won the 100 back and 100 fly with marks of 56.27 and 53.83, respectively, while Madore captured the 100 breast in 1:04.01. Both athletes closed out the dual meet as members of the first-place 200 free relay which also consisted of senior Stephen Ranalli (Wildwood Crest, N.J.) and Hicks. The relay hit the wall in 1:28.83.
 
Widener (9-3, MAC 6-1) will look to win its 13th Middle Atlantic Conference title overall and first since 2010 when it travels to York, Pa. for the league's championship meet beginning on Feb. 11.
