Field Hockey Drops Non-Conference Contest to Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Four different players scored to lead Delaware Valley to a 4-1 victory over Widener in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at Lipinski Field. The Aggies scored twice in each half to earn the convincing victory.

Carlie Baldus factored into both goals in the first frame to give Delaware Valley (4-3) control of the game. Taylor Pritchett slid her a pass to the right post to put the Aggies on the board with 13:01 on the clock. Less than five minutes later, Kara Imes collected a rebound off a diving save by Widener junior goalkeeper Mikayla Ninos (Northampton, Pa.) to double the Aggie lead. Baldus was credited with an assist for taking the initial shot to give the hosts a two-goal lead at the break.

Widener (3-3) attempted to slice into the deficit directly after halftime, but shot attempts by junior Kaelei Renzi (Mantua, N.J.) and freshman Kelly Rodgers (Oaklyn, N.J.) were turned away by goalkeeper Emily Aldridge. The Aggies then responded on the opposite end by getting goals from Samantha Collyer and Prichett.

The Pride, who attempted 15 penalty corners and 13 shots in the match, kept knocking on the door throughout the second half and eventually got one past Aldridge in the 67th minute off a penalty corner. Senior Ashley Aires (Bayville, N.J.) received a pass from sophomore Eliza Newlin (Lewisburg, Pa.), slid the ball over to Alyssa Buckley (Flourtown, Pa.), and the freshman blasted a shot to the back of the cage to seal the final outcome.

Aldridge turned away five shots to earn the victory between the pipes for Delaware Valley. Ninos saved six shots in the setback for Widener, and Aires recorded a defensive save.

Widener begins MAC Commonwealth action when it visits Hood on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 11:00 a.m.
