Taylor's Early Goal Propels Men's Soccer to Victory Over Gwynedd Mercy

CHESTER, Pa. (Sept. 19, 2015) – Senior Eric Taylor (Bensalem, Pa.) recorded an early goal that proved to be the game-winner as the Widener men's soccer team earned 1-0 victory over Gywnedd Mercy on Saturday at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
 
The Pride, who earned their third straight victory, improves to 3-3-1, while the Griffins fall to 1-6.  
 
The senior forward chipped the ball from just outside the box over a diving Matt Chilcote to give the Blue and Gold a one goal advantage. Taylor's second goal of the season came in the eighth minute of play.
 
Widener outshot Gwynedd Mercy 28-2, including a 12 to zero advantage on corner kicks. The Pride recorded 12 shots on target, while the Griffins notched one shot on goal. Widener kept Chilcote on his toes as he recorded 11 saves in the loss for Gwynedd Mercy.
 
Junior Jonathan Rouse (New Freedom, Pa.) recorded one save for his third victory of the season, and third shutout of the season.
 
Taylor and classmate Tori Remondelli (Point Pleasant, N.J.) each recorded six shots in the game. Junior Tommy O'Keefe (Lutherville, Md.) and freshman Kevin McKenna (North Wales, Pa.) added three shots.
 
The Blue and Gold will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Rosemont at 4 p.m. at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
