CHESTER, Pa. – Despite getting a career effort from junior goalkeeper
Mikayla Ninos (Northampton, Pa.), the Widener University field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to Cabrini in non-conference action on Friday, Sept. 18 at Edith R. Dixon Field.
Cabrini (2-3) got two consecutive goals from Tiffany Phillips in the opening 21 minutes and never looked back. Phillips finished a pass from Jen Webb to the near post to put the Cavaliers on the board and then sent home a long pass from Jackie Neary to double the visitor's advantage. The second marker came shortly after Widener's Ninos kicked away a penalty stroke attempted by Webb.
Kerry Anne Farrell then added one goal in each half that sealed the four-goal victory for the Cavaliers. Both strikes came off rebounds, which included an initial shot by Phillips, who tallied an assist on the final scoring play.
Cabrini outshot Widener 23-3 and had a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners. Ninos turned away a career-best 11 shots between the pipes for the Pride, while freshman
Gabrielle Kilpatrick (Hainesport, N.J.) contributed two defensive saves and junior
Meghan McLaughlin (Woolwich Township, Pa.) added one in the waning seconds.
Widener (3-2) will regroup and return to action when it visits Delaware Valley on Tuesday, Sept. 22 for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
