Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener to Swarthmore, 4-0

CHESTER, Pa. (September 1, 2015) – The Widener women's soccer team dropped the season on Tuesday, as they fell to Swarthmore, 4-0, at Leslie C. Quick Stadium.
 
Widener falls to 0-1, while Swarthmore opens the season 1-0. This is the second straight the Garnet have earned the victory in the women's soccer portion of the "320 Challenge". 
 
Senior goalkeeper Olivia Pfautz (Ephrata, Pa.) notched nine saves in the loss. She faced 32 shots, 14 on target, in 90 minutes played.
 
The Garnet opened the scoring the tenth minute with a goal from Caroline Khanna. The midfielder's goal was assisted by Hannah Lichtenstein. Shortly after her goal, Khanna helped Swarthmore to take a 2-0 advantage as she assisted Claire O'Brien in the 17th minute.
 
Swarthmore took a 4-0 lead into halftime with goals from Katie Dougherty and Marin McCoy. McCoy assisted Dougherty's 36th minute goal and Caroline Meier added an assist in the 44th minute.
 
Sophomores Lauren Wilson (National Park, N.J.) and Lara Houck (Hughesville, Md.) each added a shot for the Pride.
 
The Blue and Gold are back on the pitch on Saturday as they take on Washington (Md.) at 4 p.m. in Chestertown, Md.
