UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Mar. 8, 2015) – Despite a four-goal second quarter, the Widener men's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference matchup against Plattsburgh, 16-7, on Sunday afternoon at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale, N.Y.
With the win, Plattsburgh evens at 2-2 on the season, while the Pride slip to 0-4 overall.
The Cardinals jumped ahead with a three-score first period before sophomore midfielder
Chris Sanchez (Flanders, N.J.) notched the Pride's first goal with 8:51 remaining in the first half. Plattsburgh followed with a four-goal run to take a 7-1 lead with 3:20 to play in the second quarter.
A tally by junior midfielder
Marc LaVine (Nashua, N.H.) bookended by a pair of goals from sophomore attacker
Tyler Schulte (Southhampton, N.J.) cut the Cardinals' lead to three (7-4), but Jack Felter was able to tack on one last score with four ticks left on the clock to give Plattsburgh an 8-4 lead heading into the intermission.
The latter stanza was opened with back-to-back feeds by LaVine to sophomore attacker
Nick Striebich (Ellicott City, Md.) and junior attacker
Matt Natale (Pottstown, Pa.) bringing the Pride within two at 8-6. But that would be as close Widener would come as the Cardinals rattled off eight unanswered goals until an unassisted effort by junior midfielder
Bryan Shields (Nazareth, Pa.) found the back of the net with just under three minutes to play.
Felter led the way for the Cardinals with six goals.
LaVine and Striebech each finished the afternoon with one goal and two assists, while LaVine also scooped up four ground balls.

Chris Treat (Havertown, Pa.) registered 13 saves in 54:01 minutes in the cage.

Brendan Dawson and the Pride open up conference play in Reading, Pa. on Wednesday, Mar. 11 against Albright. Play is slated to start at 7 p.m.
