Men's Basketball Drops Heartbreaker to Alvernia

Men's basketball battled a Commonwealth contender but was unable to come away with the victory as Widener dropped a heartbreaker to Alvernia, 58-52, at the Schwartz Center.
 
Senior Greg Lawson (Mount Holly, NJ) recorded a double-double off of the bench for the Pride. He finished the game with 15 points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes played. Lawson added one steal and one assist against the Crusaders.
 
David Nicholson (Odenton, MD) added seven points and two rebounds. The junior guard shot three-of-seven from the field and one-of-four from three point range.
 
Charles Cooper recorded a game high 22 points for Alvernia (13-9, 8-6 CC). He shot five-of-12 from the field, including five-of-nine from three point range. The guard added five rebounds, two assist and one steal.
 
Widener (9-15, 2-13 CC) held the advantage on the glass over the Crusaders. The Pride recorded 43 rebounds, compared to the 20 pulled down by the Crusaders. Widener also recorded 22 points in the paint and 18 second chance points.
 
Guard John Fender (Wallingford, PA) finished with eight rebounds and six points. The sophomore shot two-of-five from the field and two-of-four from the free throw line.
 
Junior Jermaine Kamara (Cork, Ireland) recorded six rebounds and four points in 13 minutes played.
 
Widener will close out the season on Saturday when they host Arcadia at 3:00 pm at the Schwartz Athletic Center.
